Influx Dance Company

Influx were appointed dance company in residence at the Tacchi Morris Arts Centre, Taunton in 2003. From their base at the Arts Centre they play a key role in delivering a range of dance to the community leading, for example, the highly successful Taunton Youth Dance Company (TYDC). Influx consists of graduates from the Laban Centre London (one of the leading contemporary dance schools in Europe) and was established by Joanne Willmott and Nicola Penfold who brought the company to the south west in 2001. All dancers are experienced performers, teachers and curators. Our current work is taking us on a new journey, where we have been working with reputable and inspiring choreographers to create a new production entitled ‘Arrival’. Influx has been working with: Yael Flexer and Bawren Tavaziva to create a piece based on their cultural identity. Company director Joanne Willmott has also choreographed a piece (while working closely with the renowned Siobhan Davies in a mentorship capacity). What is particularly exciting about this new production is that it references each choreographer’s personal culture and identity Yael Flexer (Israeli) Bawren Tavaziva (Zimbabwean), and Joanne Willmott is from Somerset with Indian Heritage.
