TYDC is particularly suitable for young people considering studying and taking part in dance beyond compulsory education. Meet like-minded dancers and also have the opportunity to take part in workshops with professional dance companies and choreographers, perform in platform events and see high quality touring dance work.
Weekday: Wednesdays, 7:30pm-9pm
Course: 10 Week
Ages: Suitable for 14-17 years
Prices: Standard £60 term | £50 term* | £100 for 2 Siblings
*Concessionary price for those in receipt of State Benefits
N.B. All classes have a week’s break during week commencing Mon 17 Feb.
Established for over fifteen years, TYDC has a history of extending company members’ dance experience and allowing them to encounter new styles and approaches to dance. Membership not only brings opportunity to meet weekly with like-minded dancers but also the opportunity to take part in workshops with professional dance companies and choreographers, perform in platform events (including the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre’s much loved Community Show twice a year) as well as the chance to see high quality touring dance work.

Low Ham Dance Film Project
Taunton Youth Dance Company members had the unique opportunity to work on a special dance film project documenting the extraordinary story of the Low Ham Mosiac, created in partnership with The Museum of Somerset and the South West Heritage Trust. Watch the film below:
Taunton Live Arts Festival 2016
Taking their work outdoors, TYDC enjoyed celebrating art in Taunton with their involvement in Taunton Live Arts Festival 2016.
Curtain Raisers (Various)
Taunton Youth Dance Company have presented a fantastic array of curtain raisers for professional companies including Tavaziva Dance, Transitions Dance Company, and aKa Dance Theatre Company.
TYDC is led by Jenny Grant, a professional dance choreographer and Artistic Director to aKa Dance Theatre Company, a professional dance company which she co-founded in early 2014. Prior to this she trained under the direction of Carrie Whitaker (Lila Dance), Cai Tomos and Dale Thompson at The University of Chichester. Jenny then went on to gain her MA in choreography, training at TrinityLaban. Alongside aKa, Jen facilitates numerous community dance classes, working with a vast age range, expanding opportunities to those interested in participating in the arts. She is local to Taunton and was in fact a member to TYDC in the early days.
aKa Dance Theatre Company:
aKa was co-founded by dance mad Jenny Grant and Joe Garbett in early 2014. Based in Taunton as company in residence at Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre, aKa are excited to be a small-scale company that creates works that are adaptable for a variety of performance surroundings, indoors and out. The company has a strong ethos towards making high quality dance theatre works that are accessible and enjoyable to all.
Since starting in 2014 they've been busy creating bright and playful dance theatre works that are loaded with colour and craziness taking them to a variety of performance spaces, challenging them with the forever changing environments whilst enjoying getting to know their audiences.
More recently aKa have been on tour with Spiltmilk Dance spreading the love across the country with their rural tour of The Little Love Cabaret.
Previous performances include; Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre, Bath Spa University, Rich Mix, The Book Club, The Place, as well as performing at well known art festivals such as Glastonbury Festival 2016.
