Arts Taunton present...
November 2019 sees the launch of the Tyca Festival: a brand new arts festival for young people in Taunton. The Tyca Festival will run for at least the next 5 years and in 2019 it will take place on 1-3 November with a range of workshops happening in the preceding fortnight.
This opening festival event brings together performances by young people that have been created especially for the Tyca Festival through workshops with cutting-edge arts organisations. The evening will include dance work created for Taunton & Bridgwater College students by national contemporary, ballet and African dance fusion company Tavaziva and theatre work created with students from The SPACE by Bristol theatre company Travelling Light. There will also be a special set by the Urban Folk singer-songwriter Geo, a recording artist originally from Taunton, and recently returned from a European tour as special guest to The Teskey Brothers.
Breaking Down Barriers
‘2019 is the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and we took inspiration from this to choose our 2019 theme. We want Tyca to break down barriers in the arts and in communities and build new connections with young people from inside and outside Taunton.’
DEBORAH BADDOO MBE
(Youth Festival Director)
Tyca is an Arts Taunton festival working in partnership with local arts organisations.

Geo is a singer-songwriter and recording artist from the west of England with a unique voice and a vision for the future. Go to www.geomusic.org for more info, and to check out her music, including her debut single and films such as BODY and Live at Union Chapel, London.
In 2019 she toured in Europe with new Decca/Universal signing The Teskey Brothers. She also performed at The Mint in LA as part of the Music in Advertising event organized by Deutsch LA, SoStereo and Hunnypot Live. Last year she appeared at the NY Sync Summit in Times Square New York and at BBC One Introducing in London, and in 2017 she toured with the international dance musical, Where Is Home? including a season at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
These experiences of performing and working alongside artists from the UK, South Africa, Italy, the USA, the Caribbean, Japan, Pakistan and Australia have been great and have allowed her to reach out to a wide and very appreciative live audience. Geo brings soulful beauty and lyrical character to the modern music scene. Her songs are set to become contemporary icons, delivered in style by an 'old soul' in a young body. File under Urban Folk.
