Have you ever been to visit friends for tea and could not really wait to leave?
ABSENT FRIENDS
by Alan Ayckbourn
Recently bereaved Colin is invited to just such a tea party by old friends to comfort him after the death of his fiancée. They are on edge wondering what to say to him but there is much more to their unease. A mix of business and cross marital emotional ties means that when Colin arrives the air of tension contrasts dramatically with his cheerful, relaxed demeanour. His apparent happiness and insensitive analysis of their issues leads each to face some difficult home truths in a play which is at times poignant, cringeworthy and extremely funny.
