One of our annual highlights (of which there are many) is our creative writing competition, The Page is Printed. This yearly contest sees our panel of judges, headed up by award-winning local poet Graeme Ryan, challenge you to write something that comes alive when read out loud. The catch? Your submission must take up no more than one side of A4 paper.

The contest has always been popular since its creation, but 2024 was big! Last year we were overwhelmed by the popularity of the contest, with entries from adults and young people from as far afield as Australia! For 2025 we hope to do it all again – wouldn’t it be great to get a record number of entries as we turn 25 this coming year?

Whilst there are book shop vouchers awarded to the best entries from Somerset based writers, and the overall best entries to incentivise people to take part, the real aim of the competition is to get people writing. Each year we receive upwards of 100 entries, all different, and all brilliant in their own way!

In February we will be inviting all our entrants, judges, and anyone with a love of English to join us for a day of celebration, where the winners will be announced, and other literary themed events will take place, including workshops and readings. More information will be revealed in due course.

If the competition sounds like fun to you, we’d love to have you enter. Take a look over at our dedicated webpage for The Page is Printed Creative Writing Competition for all of the necessary details.

You’d better be quick though, the competition deadline is in just two months, closing on Mon 13 Jan 2025!
